About crown lengthening
Cosmetic dentist Dr. Patrick Yoshikane is skilled at crown lengthening to enhance the look and health of your teeth. Crown lengthening may come off as an odd name to some because it sounds like it entails making the tooth longer. A more precise term would be crown exposure because some of the gum tissue is removed to show more of the enamel. You might want crown lengthening for aesthetic reasons if you'd like to correct a "gummy" smile. Crown lengthening can also be performed if not enough of your tooth is visible to hold a dental crown, filling, or another restoration. "Dr. Yoshikane and his staff are awesome. They have been my wife and her families dentist forever and have been my dentist for the last two years. They helped me out recently at the last minute with my wisdom teeth. I had been putting it off for 20 plus years because they never hurt and out of the blue the one on my upper left jaw became inflamed and began causing me pretty bad pain. I gave them a call and they got me in to check it out and after seeing the inflammation the set me up to get them out. Dr. Yoshikane asked me if I wanted sedation or local and I said local. I am not a big fan of sedation and dental work doesn't weird me out. The procedure went great and Dr. Yoshikane and his assistant checked on my pain level throughout the whole procedure to make sure I was not in pain. It was a great experience and I would recommend him to anyone local looking for a great dental office who does everything they can to help their patients as quickly as they can."- G.S. / Yelp / Nov 09, 2018
"Dr. Yoshikane and his team are friendly, informative and ease the anxiety that dental visits bring. Over the years I've heard many horror stories about wisdom teeth removal so when my turn came to finally part with mine, I was very apprehensive. Dr. Y took the time to thoroughly explain all the pros and cons, laid out a detailed plan then he and his team made sure my comfort and care during the procedure were top notch. Visits to the dentist no longer trigger anxiety attacks thanks to Dr Yoshikane's office."- L.M. / Yelp / Jul 24, 2019

When you walk into the office you won't feel like you're in a dentist office because EVERYONE is so friendly and personable! Every employee goes out of their way to introduce themselves to you. Just like most people, I used to hate going to the dentist but now I look forward to my appointments every time! I can't wait to see everyone in the office! Candidates for crown lengthening are in good overall health, particularly with regard to the gums. Conditions, such as gum (periodontal) disease, might have to be addressed before crown lengthening can be done. Most frequently, crown lengthening is performed for aesthetic reasons to fix a "gummy" smile. In such circumstances, excessive gum tissue can be eliminated to balance the proportion of visible enamel to gums and give you a higher, more even gumline. However, crown lengthening may also be required to properly place a dental restoration. Dr. Yoshikane might need to uncover more of your tooth in order to put in a bridge, crown, or filling.
What To Expect
Before the procedure starts, a local anesthetic is used to numb the treated regions to make the process more comfortable. You can talk about other sedation options with Dr. Yoshikane during your initial consultation to help you stay comfortable and calm throughout the procedure. After you are ready, a small amount of the gum tissue is removed to slowly show more of your enamel, and then your gum line will be sculpted for a lifted and even look. When Dr. Yoshikane has finished the procedure, he will seal the gum tissue and then rinse your mouth.
Following your treatment, your gums may be sore and inflamed. Cold compresses and over-the-counter pain relievers can be utilized to minimize your discomfort, a prescription for antibiotics and/or pain medication may also be indicated. It can be easier to follow a soft food or liquid diet for several days while your gums heal. You should carefully clean your mouth with soft brushing and mouthwash but avoid dental floss. Patrick Yoshikane, D.D.S. will closely monitor your recovery. Dr. Yoshikane will also always assess your gums and oral health at your yearly dental examination.
Based on your dental insurance coverage, some of your costs may be paid. After talking to your insurance company, we can better calculate your out-of-pocket costs. At your consult, the team of Dr.Yoshikane can go over payment methods, along with financing, to help make your procedure affordable.
