about sinus lifts

You may not be a good candidate for dental implants since there needs to be a healthy amount of bone along with enough space for an implant to be put in without touching the nasal passages. A surgical sinus lift may be performed to help you become a candidate for an implant. At Patrick Yoshikane, D.D.S., we will get you ready to receive an implant with sinus lift surgery. Not enough jawbone height, poor bone quality, or sinuses that are too near to put an implant are all reasons why you might require a sinus lift, also referred to as sinus augmentation surgery. The sinus floor is raised to ensure an implant will be easy to place. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Patrick Yoshikane at his practice in Orange, CA to find out more about dental implants and sinus lift surgery.

Best Candidates

Nominees for a sinus augmentation may have insufficient space in the top jaw to place a surgical dental implant if the sinuses are excessively large or too near the jawbone. At your appointment with Dr. Yoshikane, a digital x-ray will be taken to measure your sinuses and jaw and ascertain whether moving the sinuses and/or a bone graft will be an appropriate plan of action to prepare you for an implant.

What To Expect

Sinus lift augmentation is an advanced surgical process that is completed at our office by Dr. Yoshikane. If necessary, a bone graft will be placed. A surgical incision will be made in the soft tissue in the back of the mouth. The gums will be raised to show the jaw bone. The bone graft, if needed, will be placed before the sinuses are lifted higher and further from the jaw. Lastly, the incision inside the gums will be sutured.

Recovery

Following your sinus surgery, you may be written a prescription for pain relievers and antibiotics that will assist you through your recovery. Dr. Yoshikane will also talk to you about the best way to take care of your incisions by giving you aftercare instructions prior to the procedure. You need to schedule another appointment about 7 – 10 days following your sinus surgery to remove the stitches. The bone graft may require a few months to heal until an implant may be scheduled.

ANTICIPATED COSTS

Based on your dental insurance coverage, some of your costs may be paid. After talking to your insurance company, we can better calculate your out-of-pocket costs. At your consult, the team of Dr.Yoshikane can go over payment methods, along with financing, to help make your procedure affordable.

solid surgical solutions

If you are eligible for a sinus lift, preparing the jawbone is vital in the achievement of an implant. Dental implants require good support in the jaw bone and having a sinus lift procedure will continue to keep the implant from interfering with your nasal cavity. We invite you to call our practice in Orange, CA to schedule an appointment with Dr. Yoshikane.
